- CRT gives voice to the unique perspectives and lived experiences of people of color. According to Solórzano (1998), “CRT recognizes that the experiential knowledge of women and men of color is legitimate, appropriate, and critical to understanding, analyzing, and teaching about racial subordination in the field of education” (p. 122). In acknowledging the validity of these lived experiences among persons of color, CRT scholars can place racism in a realistic context and actively work to eliminate it. CRT uses counternarratives as a way to highlight discrimination, offer racially different interpretations of policy, and challenge the universality of assumptions made about people of color.
